Responsibilities

  • Conduct research aligned with the Centre’s research pillars and strategic priorities

  • Collaborate with internal research groups (MRGs) on joint research activities

  • Contribute to publications, proposals, and funded research projects

  • Acknowledge the Centre affiliation in all relevant publications and proposals

  • Participate in joint industry–academic activities where applicable

  • Comply with the Centre’s Code of Conduct and professional standards

  • Support the Centre’s mission through active and ethical research engagement

This affiliation offers academics and researchers the opportunity to collaborate with a leading research centre, contribute to high-impact research aligned with strategic research pillars, and engage in joint academic and industry activities. Affiliates gain access to research infrastructure, participate in publications and funded projects, and strengthen their international research profile through active collaboration with established research groups.

General qualifications and requirements

  • PhD or advanced postgraduate degree in a relevant field (or equivalent research experience)

  • Active research profile with publications and/or project involvement

  • Strong alignment with the Centre’s research pillars and strategic priorities

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary research teams

  • Experience in academic, applied, or industry-linked research activities

  • Commitment to ethical conduct and professional research standards

  • Availability to actively contribute during the affiliation period

Application process

  • Interested candidates are required to complete and submit the official CYENS Research Fellowship Application Form via the designated application link CYENS Research Fellowship Application Form

  • The application must be submitted together with:

    • A detailed curriculum vitae (CV), and

    • A written description of the proposed research activities (including research topic, project, and plan)

  • Applications will be assessed in accordance with the Centre’s internal policies and procedures

  • Shortlisted candidates may be requested to provide additional documentation or participate in further evaluation

  • The conferral of any affiliation is subject to internal approval and formal written appointment by the Centre

About us

CYENS Centre of Excellence (formerly known as RISE) is the Research and Innovation Centre on Interactive media, Smart systems and Emerging technologies empowering knowledge and technology transfer in the region. CYENS CoE is supported by the European Commission, the Republic of Cyprus and its founding Partners, the Municipality of Nicosia, the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPI), University College London, the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus University of Technology and the Open University of Cyprus.   


The Centre conducts excellent, internationally competitive scientific research in the areas of visual sciences, human factors and design, communication, and artificial intelligence delivered by high-calibre multidisciplinary research teams. CYENS engages in knowledge transfer and innovation activities aiming to bridge the gap between scientific research and STEM-led innovation and entrepreneurship. 


 CYENS, as a Centre of Excellence, cultivates a culture of innovation and creativity in an inspiring environment filled with academics, researchers, creative and onward-looking people, innovators, entrepreneurs, and practitioners. The Centre operates under the moto “Inspired by Humans Designed for Humans” with the vision to produce world class research that drives innovation towards social and economic benefit while conducting excellent, internationally competitive scientific research in the areas of visual sciences, human factors and design, communication, and artificial intelligence. It sets out to meet the challenge with a total potential funding of more than 30 million Euros for the first 7 years, from a Horizon 2020 Teaming Action and multiple other sources, and a business plan for long-term sustainability and growth.
